Annual property tax bills for Chestermere residents will be mailed by June 27, with payment due by July 31.
Each year, the City of Chestermere issues property tax notices to all residential and non-residential property owners. These notices include both municipal taxes, which fund local services like fire protection, roads, parks, and community planning, and provincial education taxes, which the City is required to collect and remit to the Government of Alberta.
This year, residents may notice an increase in their total tax bill. As shared during the 2025 budget process, the change is entirely due to two factors outside of the City’s control:
- A 4.2 million dollar increase in the Province’s education tax, which the City is legally required to collect
- A 14 percent increase in assessed property values, based on July 2024 market conditions
Despite these pressures, Council made the decision to leave Chestermere’s municipal tax rate unchanged at 3.25%. That rate remains the lowest residential rate of any city in Alberta and reflects Council’s commitment to affordability, service protection, and long-term planning.
“We know this isn’t just about numbers. It’s about real pressure on families,” said Mayor Shannon Dean. “That’s why Council chose not to increase municipal taxes. We’ve done our best to hold the line where we can, protect services people count on, and still plan ahead responsibly.”
