- Parks are generally unsupervised and use may involve risk of injury. The City of Chestermere is not responsible for loss or injury to park users or damaged property.
- There is no lifeguard on duty. Enter the water at your own risk.
- Pets must be on leash and stay on the grass. Take responsibility for picking up after your pet and for their behaviour.
- Shade shelters under 10×10 feet are permitted on the grass, and shade options that do not need to be staked down are permitted on the sand area.
- Do not dig below six inches in the sand. A filtration liner is installed under the beach. Digging or placing items such as umbrellas in the sand can puncture the liner.
- Littering is prohibited.
- Smoking and alcohol are not permitted.

If you have concerns about poor behaviour at the beach, call the non-emergency RCMP line at 403-204-8900.
Liquor In The Park
The City of Chestermere’s Alcohol in the Parks pilot project is now available at two City parks, allowing for responsible alcohol consumption within clearly designated areas of John Peake and Sunset Parks.
Parkgoers now have the option of having an alcoholic beverage between the hours of 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. at both City parks. Users may roam around the large grassy areas with an alcoholic beverage as long as they remain within the clearly defined areas found on posted signage at the parks.
The City of Chestermere asks users to drink responsibly and please be respectful to other park users and their surroundings.
Important Details
- This pilot project will only take place at John Peake Park and Sunset Park.
- These locations were chosen with surrounding areas in mind, ensuring proper distance from playgrounds and family-central locations, with access to portable washrooms.
- It will allow the consumption of wine, coolers, beer, cider, liqueurs and similar type products ONLY in the grassy areas of the parks – not in the parking lots or sidewalks. The consumption of any “spirits” is prohibited in an open space.
- Consumption will be allowed between the hours of 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. ONLY.
- No glass beverage containers are allowed.
- Disruptive behaviour, public intoxication, and public urination WILL NOT be tolerated. Users are expected to be respectful of other parkgoers and to clean up after themselves.

FAQ
Can I Go Swimming In The Lake?
Yes, users may swim in the lake. However, the Province is currently advising that COVID-19 transmission through water is currently unknown, and people entering the water do so at their own risk.
Buoys are placed near the parks during the summer (Anniversary and John Peake Park) that mark shoreline areas that can be used for swimming.
Please be advised that you swim at your own risk. There are no lifeguards on duty.
Is The Water Quality Tested?
Yes. Guided by the Alberta Safe Beach Protocol, the City tests water quality at the Beaches once weekly in partnership with AHS.
Can I Use The Boat Launch?
Yes. More details about the boat launch are available on Our Boat Launch Page.
Why Don't You Permit BBQ's or Tents on The Beach?
Due to fire hazard and safety issues, BBQs are not permitted in any Chestermere park or beach. Permanent City BBQs are provided at Sunset Park for public use.
Only umbrellas and sunshades that don’t require extensive securing into the ground are permitted in the beach areas. Securing a larger tent with stakes, etc. can puncture a protective liner installed under the sand, causing damage. Tents larger than 10×10 are permitted, but only in grassy areas, and they must be properly secured, as to not fly away should the wind pick up.
