Permit Cancellation
Eligibility for Cancellation
Permit holders or applicants may request a permit cancellation and, where applicable, a refund for the following reasons:
- The project has been cancelled
- A contractor obtained a permit for a bid but was not awarded the project
- Duplicate permits were issued (e.g., both the property owner and contractor applied)
Who can request for permit cancellation?
Only the individual listed as the original applicant on the permit may request a cancellation or refund.
If someone other than the applicant is submitting the request, they must provide written authorization signed by the original applicant confirming permission to act on their behalf.
How to Request for Permit Cancellation?
To request a cancellation, submit a written request that includes:
- Full name
- Address
- Permit number
- Reason for cancellation

Permit Extension & Renewal
When To Apply For Extension?
Applicants or property owners are encouraged to submit an extension request at least 30 days prior to the permit’s expiry date.
- If Your Permit Has Expired
- If a permit has expired, the applicant or owner has up to 45 days from the expiry date to apply for an extension or renewal.
- If no request is received within this timeframe, a new permit application will be required.
How to Apply For Extension?
To apply, complete the Buildilng and Trades Permit Extension Request Form or the Development Permit Extension Application Form and submit it using one of the following methods:

- In person: Planning & Development Services Department (Second Floor), City of Chestermere
Important Information
- Permits are non-transferable
- If a project is terminated before completion and ownership or responsibility changes, a new permit application is required
