The City is pleased to announce important enhancements to our emergency alert system through the Alberta Emergency Alert program. This system provides residents with critical information about potentially life-threatening situations in our area, such as wildfires, floods, and other critical events.
As a result of these enhancements, the City of Chestermere will move away from regular use of Voyent Alerts, and will instead use Alberta Emergency Alerts.
Alberta Emergency Alerts deliver crucial details about the location of an emergency and the specific actions you need to take to protect yourself. Alerts can be sent out through various channels to ensure you receive the information, including TV, radio, websites, social media, the Alberta Emergency Alert mobile app, and compatible smartphones.
The system uses clear alert levels to indicate the urgency of the situation. Critical alerts mean you need to take immediate action to save your life, such as during a wildfire evacuation. Advisory alerts indicate you need to prepare to act for a potential future threat. The Alberta Emergency Alert system also includes AMBER Alerts issued by local police services and the RCMP for child abductions.
The Alberta Emergency Alert phone app also allows for further customizations to your alerts, including the option to opt-in for alerts for certain areas, volume controls for critical alerts, and more.
