The City of Chestermere is pleased to announce the successful completion of all directives stemming from the municipal inspection conducted by Municipal Affairs. This significant achievement marks a key step forward in restoring and ensuring sound local governance and adherence to provincial regulations, particularly those related to the Municipal Government Act.
The journey to this point began with Ministerial Order MSD:002/23, issued on March 13, 2023, which mandated the completion of 12 directives related to the findings of the inspection.
The diligent efforts by the City of Chestermere have been recognized by the Minister of Municipal Affairs, who confirmed the completion of all directives to his satisfaction in a letter dated March 12, 2025. Furthermore, the minister issued Ministerial Order MSD:015/25 to formally acknowledge that the directives of Ministerial Order MSD:002/23 have been carried out to his satisfaction.
“This is a big day for the City of Chestermere,” remarked CAO Kent Edney, “It puts this inspection behind us, and the minister is satisfied with how council is operating, with how administration is operating… it’s in the rear-view mirror now.”
In his letter, the minister expressed his satisfaction with the progress made in addressing the requirements of the directives and restoring effective, transparent and accountable governance for the residents of Chestermere.
“We’ve had the opportunity to run into Minister McIver at a few events, and he has expressed to all of us on council how pleased he has been with the work of this council and this administration, including recently,” said Mayor Dean during the March 25 council meeting.
