Regular Council Meeting
Resolution Tracker Update
CAO Kent Edney presented Council with an update on the 2024 and 2025 Resolution Tracker, which monitors progress on Council-approved initiatives. Council accepted the report for information.
Beach Parking Update
Council accepted for information a report outlining new traffic and safety measures around Anniversary Park for the busy summer season. Developed in collaboration with the Chestermere Recreation Community Association (CRCA), the plan includes:
- Increased patrols by Chestermere Peace Officers
- A $10 parking fee for visitors at the CRCA lot (free for Chestermere residents with ID)
- Additional garbage and recycling bins with more frequent collection
- Improved traffic flow and updated “no parking” signage
These measures as designed to reduce congestion, promote safe and equitable access, and support a positive experience for all park users.
Funding for Vehicle Leasing
Council approved reallocating $50,000 from the Community Operations Budget to address a shortage of shared vehicles for City staff. This funding will support a site assessment of the Operations facility and the leasing of four mid-size, all-wheel-drive SUVs. This approach provides a cost-effective solution to maintain service levels, reduce liability, and ensure safe and professional transportation for staff amid seasonal workforce increases.
Waterford Development Outline Plan Updates
Council accepted for information the Outline Plan amendment for Waterford Stage 1 Phase 6 and gave First Reading to Bylaw #016-25, a proposed Land Use Bylaw amendment. The changes aim to enhance housing diversity by:
- Adding approximately 11 new single-family units
- Redesignating 44 parcels
- Revising two parcels from multi-unit to single-detached homes to reflect current demand
- Creating a new pathway connection.
A Public Hearing for Bylaw #016-25 is scheduled for July 8, 2025.
Closed Session Motions
Council accepted the West Chestermere Drive Curb Replacement discussion for information.
Council directed Administration to proceed as discussed in Agenda Item 8.2 – Land Discussion.
Emergency Management Leadership
To strengthen emergency preparedness and continuity, Council appointed Fire Chief Cody Zebedee as the City’s Director of Emergency Management (DEM), and Sara Coutts and Brent Paquette as Deputy Directors (DDEM). These appointments ensure compliance with the Emergency Management Act and Bylaw #011-24. Council also rescinded Resolution #444-21, which had appointed previous representatives.
