Mayor Shannon Dean
It is with immense excitement for the future and a deep sense of gratitude that I accept the position of Mayor for the City of Chestermere. Thank you to the residents of Chestermere for bestowing upon me the great privilege and responsibility of representing you. It is no small thing to have someone say they support you and are voting for you and it is not lost on me the tremendous responsibility I have been tasked with. I commit to earning your trust everyday and working with you, council and administration to move Chestermere forward. Chestermere, I invite you to join us in this journey. Share your ideas, ask questions, and actively participate in making Chestermere a better place for all.

Deputy Mayor Ritesh Narayan
I have been a proud resident of Chestermere since 2006 and was elected as a city councilor in 2017. I am a criminal justice and law lecturer in the Department of Economics Justice & Policy at Mount Royal University. I have a Ph.D. in Human Services & Criminal Justice, a Master’s degree in Law, and Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Law. . I have worked for various law firms but primarily focus on teaching now.

Councillor Murray Grant
Murray Grant was born to a family that has called the Chestermere area home for over 60 years. Being raised in Chestermere, it has given him a keen perspective on many aspects of life in Chestermere. From being in one of our first Playschool classes at the Chestermere Regional Complex to Graduating from Chestermere High School, he has lived a lifetime in our city. Murray has achieved his Red Seal Journeyman Electrician Certification from one of the finest technical schools in Canada, the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. After many years of building Schools, Skyscrapers and Institutional Facilities, Murray went on to achieve his Masters Certification and start his own successful business. In that time Murray married his wife Kari in Chestermere and they raise their kids in our beautiful City. Murray is very active in our youth sports, coaching both Hockey and Lacrosse for many years, more recently furthering his commitment to Chestermere by becoming Vice-President of the Chestermere Minor Hockey Association. Murray has also volunteered many hours siting on the board of several City of Chestermere committees.
Murray’s life experience in Chestermere has lead to his passion for our community. It is why he is so dedicated to building recreation for all ages, working with our local school boards and developers through administration to bring our community the schools it desperately needs and the vision to balance our local economy providing stability and certainty to living life in Chestermere for all ages.

Councillor Kiran Randhawa
Kiran Randhawa has been living in Chestermere since 2008. She is a wife and mother of a 7-year-old daughter, and she runs multiple businesses with extensive experience in business management. Over the years, Kiran has actively volunteered in the community, serving on various committees and boards. Her volunteer work includes being a member of the Chestermere Welcoming and Inclusive Committee, the Chestermere Coalition for Seniors, the Police Communications Committee, and the Senior Advisory Committee. She also participates in Prairie Waters Elementary School event planning and runs the non-profit organization for Seniors. Through these efforts, Kiran has gained a deep understanding of the needs of all residents and families in the community. Her commitment to enhancing the community is driven by a passion for making Chestermere a better place for all residents.

Councillor Janelle Sandboe
Janelle Sandboe was elected to Chestermere Council in 2024. She is Chestermere business owner, dedicated volunteer, mother of two school-aged children and Certified Fund Raising Executive. Her governance experience spans across multiple Chestermere boards and committees. Since being elected, Janelle has proactively sought appointments on regional Boards and Committees to ensure Chestermere’s perspective is represented. Janelle’s pre-Council portfolio includes notable projects with Calgary Public Libraries, AHS and ATCO. In her off hours, Janelle can be found runing programs for youth, volunteering with local not-for-profits, or enjoying the lake with her family.

Councillor Robert Schindler
Robert Schindler has over 25 years of experience in public and commercial building projects, working his way up from the push-broom to the board room. He fell in love with Chestermere because of the small town feel combined with the diverse community. He was elected in the 2024 by-election has since been advancing a bright future for Chestermere where people can live, play and thrive for their entire lives. The Care Bear of the current council, he takes every resident concern seriously, always has time to make a resident’s day brighter, and can regularly be seen supporting events, nonprofits, and small businesses around town.
Robert believes in strong financial stewardship by doing things right the first time. He is passionate about building community connections, creating safe and healthy environments, and good governance.

Councillor Rob Wawrzynowski
Together with his family, Rob Wawrzynowski moved to the City of Chestermere’s Lakefront in 2014. He has over 20 years of experience as a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with a robust background in innovation projects of all sizes. Now a business owner, his career showcases exceptional skills in leadership, strategy, policy development, and construction management. Rob also holds an Ivy League MBA, which has equipment him with advanced knowledge in governance, business management, and strategic planning. He donates his time to Youth Recreation and is a Student Advisor at Cornell University. Councillor Rob Wawrzynowski has a keen focus on Economic Development, Lake Health/Safety, and Strategic Planning for the City of Chestermere.

CAO Kent Edney
Mr. Edney brings a wealth of diverse leadership and management experience to his role as Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Chestermere. Appointed in September 2024 as the CAO, Mr. Edney is responsible for the implementation of council’s policies and decisions, and for the overall administration and development of the organization.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Edney joined the organization in March 2024 and served as the Director of Community Operations for the City of Chestermere, helping lead the organization through the transition from the previous administration. Before choosing Chestermere, he was the Chief Administrative Officer for Brazeau County, where he successfully navigated the county through complex situations, notably during the challenging Buck Creek wildfire. His leadership during this crisis showcased his ability to manage large-scale emergencies, coordinate multi-agency responses, and effectively communicate with residents.
Mr. Edney’s extensive background also includes significant experience in the energy sector. He served as Manager of Gas Operations and Engineering Supervisor at the City of Medicine Hat, demonstrating strong capabilities in capital budgeting, economic development, and operational management. He also held executive leadership roles at several public and private energy companies , where he honed his skills in strategic planning, business acumen, and team leadership.
Throughout his career, Mr. Edney has consistently demonstrated a commitment to effective governance, community engagement, and strategic problem-solving. He is dedicated to fostering a collaborative and transparent environment, ensuring the City of Chestermere continues to thrive and meet the needs of its residents.

2024 - 2029 Strategic Plan
The 2024-2029 Strategic Plan for the City of Chestermere was created by City Council to guide the activities of both council and city administration.
The plan, which aims to provide a long-term vision for the community, was created with collaboration from City Council and senior administrative staff to determine the city’s direction. The strategic plan is broken down into four Key Areas of Focus.
- Focused and Effective Leadership,
- Mindful and Responsible Community Stewardship,
- Strong and Varied Economy, and
- Inclusive and Diverse Social Connections.
The plan will be reviewed and updated regularly to ensure that it remains relevant.
