Residents will soon have improved access and a smoother drive on Rainbow Road North between Windermere Drive and Highway 1. Construction is expected to start this fall, with resurfacing completed in weeks rather than months.
Council has approved using recycled asphalt for the upgrades, reopening the Windermere connection, and maintaining a 50% load restriction to protect the roadway. This change in scope delivers key improvements now while reducing project costs by just over $3 million.
The upgrades respond directly to community feedback, enhance connectivity for residents, businesses, and emergency services, and provide immediate safety benefits.
The intersection at Highway 1 and Rainbow Road North is under Alberta Transportation’s jurisdiction. The City is actively advocating for safety enhancements with the Province and will continue monitoring traffic data to inform future discussions.
This decision reflects Council’s commitment to safe, connected transportation while balancing timely improvements with responsible financial management.
