Following announcements from Rocky View Schools and the Government of Alberta, the City of Chestermere is excited to share that two new schools will be built within our city. As one of Alberta’s fastest-growing communities, this investment is a significant step in ensuring our students have access to high-quality education close to home.
“This council remains committed to prioritizing school sites. School sites are a standing item on our GAP Agendas, and we continuously advocate for new schools in our community. Within nine months, council and administration have worked with Rocky View Schools and the Government of Alberta and now have construction funding for a new public K-9 school and planning funding for a new public high school. We have not had a new school open in Chestermere since 2014. I am so proud of the work of this council and administration. It is amazing what can happen when we all work together for the betterment of our community,” said Mayor Shannon Dean. “Thank you to MLA Chantel de Jonge, Minister Demetrios Nicolaides and the Government of Alberta for supporting our community with these new schools.”
The first school is a much-needed K-9 School in the community of Dawson’s Landing. This school has been granted construction funding by Rocky View Schools and is expected to help relieve space pressures in some of our most overcrowded schools. The site is already nearly prepared, and our administration is working diligently to finalize access and services to ensure a smooth construction process.
The second school project, a high school in Chelsea, has been granted planning funding under the Province of Alberta’s School Accelerator Program. As our community continues to grow, this project will help meet the increasing demand for student spaces and provide more opportunities for local youth.
These new schools are a game-changer for Chestermere, reinforcing our commitment to supporting students and families. While opening dates are still to be determined by Rocky View Schools, we will share updates as they become available.
