2025 Election
In accordance with the Municipal Government Act, the City of Chestermere will hold a Municipal Election on October 20, 2025 to fill the position of Mayor and six (6) Councillors.
These representatives are elected at-large. This means they represent the entire municipality of Chestermere, rather than geographic wards.
2025 Municipal Election – Important Dates
- Nomination Period: January 1st – September 22, 2025
- Nomination Day (last opportunity to file nominations): September 22 at 12 pm.

All nominations must be submitted to the Returning Officer before the nomination deadline. Additional questions can also be directed to the Returning Officer.
The Returning Office is open for full-time hours: Mon – Friday from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm

The City of Chestermere follows protocols and procedures outlined by the Alberta Provincial Government for municipal elections. The date of the election is legislated by the Province of Alberta.

IMPORTANT: In order to vote in Chestermere’s Municipal Election (and any upcoming provincial and federal elections) you MUST be registered online to vote with Elections Alberta.

Alberta’s Municipal Affairs made several changes to the Local Authority Elections Act and the Municipal Government Act in 2024 that significantly impacts candidates, including the rules and requirements surrounding campaign funding. The City of Chestermere recommends that anyone interested in becoming a candidate review the amended legislation:
(NEW) Notice of Intent to Run
Due to changes in the Local Authorities Election Act, a Notice of Intent to Run must be filed with the City of Chestermere prior to accepting or expending any campaign funding.

The City will maintain a register of candidates who have provided notice of Intent to Run, which will be publicly available here on our website.
Nomination Period
The nomination period for the 2025 Municipal Election Opens January 1, 2025 and closes at 12:00 noon on Monday, September 22, 2025.
During this period, nomination papers can be submitted at the main Administration office Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm.
In order for the nomination papers to be accepted, they must:
- Be complete and in the prescribed forms;
- Include a minimum amount of signatures from electors eligible to vote in the 2025 Municipal Election and be a resident within the local jurisdiction on the date of signing; and
- Include a deposit in the amount of $250. This deposit must be payable to the City of Chestermere is required in either cash, money order, or certified cheque. A receipt will be issued within 24 hours of the deposit.
- Criminal Record Check must be submitted with all prescribed forms.
