Public Input Policy

By September 4, 2024Newsflash

During City Council on August 27th, City Council approved Policy 800-852, the Public Input Policy. The Public Input Policy enables members of the public to voice their opinions and concerns with Council during the decision-making process.

The goal of this policy is to facilitate earnest, constructive and respectful dialogue between Council and the Public on subjects pertaining to the city.

As part of this policy, members of the public will be allowed to make comments during the “Public Input” section of Council Agendas for both Council Meetings and Governance & Priorities Committee Meetings either in-person or via written submission. Registration will be required at the designated sign-in sheet before each meeting begins.

  • Comments and questions made at Council Meetings must address items contained within the current agenda but may not be made about an item that will be or has been heard in a Public Hearing
  • Comments and questions made at Governance & Priorities Meetings may speak to community-based and/or community-wide issues.

Members of the public are not permitted to speak for longer than five (5) minutes and must refrain from personal attacks and derogatory statements. Members can only speak once to an item on the Agenda or Community Issue once per meeting at the discretion of the Chair.

Members who are submitting written comments must include:

  1. The name and legal municipal address of the resident
  2. The member of the public’s comments

Written submissions must be received before noon the Monday preceding a meeting of council and must refrain from personal attacks and derogatory statements.

Questions and submissions can be sent to Legislative Services at legislativeservices@chestermere.ca.
