Due to low river flow, reservoir storage capacity, and snowpack conditions, Alberta is at risk of drought and water shortages.
The City of Chestermere is taking steps to be ready for both drought and flood conditions, along with other climate hazards that may impact our operations, like wildfires. We’re proactively accelerating our plans, procedures and communications to be ready for a water shortage to ensure our City, businesses and residents are ready for the upcoming conditions.
We’re also working together with our regional partners to be coordinated and prepared. This includes working closely with the City of Calgary to ensure our residents are properly informed and that we’re saving water, where possible, to meet future demand.
Remember, water is a shared resource – we must all do our part to conserve water. Without the desired precipitation, Chestermere should be prepared for possible outdoor water restrictions to help conserve water. Depending on conditions, these restrictions could be in place earlier and longer, with potentially different restrictions than last year.
