Hello Chestermere,
I would like to start off this edition of This Week in Council by recognizing Councillor Kiran Randhawa on her being honored with the Harry Sohal Memorial Award. Congratulations Councillor Randhawa.
Council continues to support events happening in our community. Last weekend, all of our council attended the Music Fest held at John Peake Park. It was a great opportunity for us to connect with people and enjoy the music, market and fireworks. Thanks again to our events staff for hosting another successful event. On Wednesday Councillors Randhawa, Sandboe, Narayan, Schindler and I were able to attend Pancakes in the Park with Synergy. Our Chestermere Fire Department was in attendance as well. We are so thankful for all of the great work Synergy does in our community and we all look forward to attending the Duck Race tomorrow at John Peake Park. And today, Councillors Sandboe, Randhawa and I were able to attend the Summer Reading Program Wrap Up Party at the Library. A huge thank you to Dominos for the donation of all the pizzas. Thank you to the Chestermere Public Library staff for all the work they do throughout the year.
On Monday I had another round of 15 Minute Meetings with the Mayor. I am really enjoying this initiative and want to say thank you to those who are coming in to have conversations. These conversations are helping council continue to be informed about the needs of the community.
Our Regular Meeting of Council on Tuesday had a full agenda and we were able to launch our Chestermere Economic Development Advisory Committee. Details on how to apply for all our committees will be coming soon. We also approved the Final 2024 Operating Budget and are excited that the city is in a strong economic position. We are looking forward to our Governance and Priorities Meeting next week where we will hammer out the details on some more committees and start to look at the budgeting process for 2025.
Planning continues on our Mayor and Council Charity Golf Tournament. We are excited to announce that the proceeds for the event will be going to the Chestermere Public Library and the Municipality of Jasper. Details of this will be launched in the coming days.
I continue to wake up each morning excited to go to the office and get to work. Council and administration continue to work hard to move Chestermere forward. We hope that all of you enjoy the last few weeks of summer.
– Mayor Shannon Dean
