A serious collision at the intersection of Range Road 284 and Chestermere Boulevard / 17th Avenue earlier this week has prompted the City of Chestermere to initiate an immediate review of intersection safety.

What the City is Doing Now
City Administration is actively assessing short-term safety improvements that could be implemented in the near future. These options may include additional signals, signage, temporary traffic controls, or traffic calming measures, depending on jurisdiction and technical feasibility.
At the same time, a comprehensive corridor study is already underway in collaboration with the City of Calgary. Recognizing that this roadway connects two municipalities, Mayor Shannon Dean has reached out to Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek to reinforce the importance of working together. Both cities have expressed a shared commitment to coordinating future improvements, including paving, road widening, and permanent traffic signal installation.
This type of collaboration ensures that infrastructure investments are well-aligned, efficient, and designed to serve residents of the region.

While permanent upgrades take time due to required planning, design, and funding, the City is focused on identifying what can be done now to reduce risk and improve conditions at this intersection. We will continue to keep residents informed as this work continues.
