Non-Residential & Large-Scale Multi-Family Permits
Permit Application Processes and Packages
Please refer to the following guidelines and requirements when applying for Commercial, Industrial, Institutional, and Large-Scale Multi-Family (non-residential) development permits.
Non-Residential & Large-Scale Multi-Family Developments
Non-Residential and Large-Scale Multi-Family permits include any new commercial, industrial, institutional, or large-scale multi-family development. Multi-family buildings under this category typically involve comprehensive townhouse or apartment-style developments over an entire site.
New Commercial Unit or Change of Use
A new unit/bay within a commercial building which is to be developed for the intended use of space (i.e. retail store, child care facility, personal service establishment, etc.).
A Change of Use is when a commercial unit is a change from one use to another, like a retail store to restaurant OR vacant to personal service establishment.
Signage
A permit is required depending on the type of sign. More information about signage under Land-Use Bylaw 022-10 can be found here.
Special Events
Special functions, such as weddings, performances, sporting events, charity runs, races and walks, street music and cultural festivals, parades, block parties and other special events are subject to applicable safety regulations, bylaw rules and licensing requirements.
The National Fire Code (Alberta Edition) requires buildings or parts of buildings undergoing construction or demolition to have a fire safety plan.
Before work can be started, the fire safety plan needs to be submitted to the City of Chestermere and the City’s acceptance of the plan needs to be in writing.
