Starting April 15th, E-Scooters will return to Chestermere! Shared mobility options and active modes of travel are a great and accessible way to travel around Chestermere! They lessen our impact on the environment while taking traffic off the road and providing quick and convenient options for transportion. These types of prgams encourage alternative types of transit that city owned infrastructure may not cover or own.
Where can I find e-scooters?
E-scooters can be located using the official Bird Canada app in designated locations across the City. Equipment can be parked at the nearest convenient location for pickup and return. E-scooters rented in Chestermere may not leave the City limits as determined by Bird Canada restrictions.
Where can e-scooters travel?
Always ride courteously and only where permitted. Always be mindful of other pathway users. E-scooters may only be used on:
- Shared Pathways
- Roads with a posted speed limit of 50km/h or less
E-Scooters may not be used on:
- Sidewalks
- Park trails not maintained by the City
Where can e-scooters be parked?
It is important to ensure e-scooters are not blocking any doors, pathways or benches. Do NOT park your scooter in restricted zones, car stalls or on medians. If you have questions about payment, condition, see one parked incorrectly or notice a cluttering issue, you can contact Bird Canada.
With this in mind, shared bikes, e-bikes and e-scooters may be parked using the following guidelines:
– Park in an upright position, with all wheels touching the ground
– When parking on a sidewalk, you must be at least 0.5m from a curb and there must be a 1.8m clearance for people to walk along the sidewalk
– When parking on parkland, do not park within a metre of a shared pathway or trail
– When parking e-scooters and e-bikes at a Transit Centre or Community and Recreation Facility, only park in areas designated for bike parking without obstructing other bikes or the bike racks; do not park in the car stalls
Do not:
– Park in an area which will block people walking, biking or driving
– Block doors, emergency exits, ramps, handrails, bus benches or bus shelters
– Park in a bike lane, shared pathway, alley or loading zone; on a bridge or in a median island
– Park inside City Facilities
When sidewalks are less than 1.8m in width or in neighbourhoods with rolled curbs, you may park in the parking lane rather than on the sidewalk, provided it is within one vehicle width of the curb and not within a restricted parking zone.
How do I use e-scooters?
To access an e-scooter, you must download the app and create an account with the City’s approved vendor. You can then use the app to locate, unlock and pay for the scooter during the time you use it.
Always follow the vendor’s direction on proper use and parking when ending a session. EVERY vehicle is equipped with GPS tracking that allows vendors to locate, collect and redistribute the scooters as required. Wearing a helmet is always a good idea and lowers the risk of injury in case of an incident.
If you have questions about a bike or e-scooter’s condition or payment, see one parked incorrectly, or notice a cluttering issue, contact @Bird Canada directly.
