As the City of Chestermere continues to move forward following the Ministerial Order that was issued December 4, 2023, we are reaffirming our commitment to fostering the best possible workplace environment for all members of our team. The recent legal saga surrounding Ms. Kim Wallace has been concluded. The courts have allowed her to enter into an Alternative Measures Program (AMP). Criminal charges have been withdrawn. Ms. Wallace was required to admit to the circumstances of the assault she was charged with and is required to meet conditions of the AMP. An Alternative Measures Program is offered by the courts to all first-time offenders who commit certain offences.
As the Official Administrator, along with the Interim CAO and our entire management team we want all City staff to know that HR, along with anyone else you may feel comfortable speaking with, is available to address any concerns or issues you may have. The City of Chestermere operates under an open-door policy. There will never be any reprisal for bringing forward any matters that may be impacting your work or workplace environment.
We acknowledge the negative impact that past events have had on our valued staff.
Moving forward, we unequivocally commit ourselves as managers and directors to creating a workplace where every staff member feels valued, respected, supported and safe. Decisions will be made with transparency and in accordance with established policies and procedures, further aligning ourselves with the “Gold Standard of Municipal Organizational Excellence.”
The security and well-being of our staff are paramount to us, and will continue to be as we move forward. Together we will rebuild trust and foster a positive and inclusive work environment for everyone.
Thank you all for your dedication and resilience during this challenging time. As the community has so eloquently affirmed “Everyday heroes work here.”
