Hey Chestermere middle schoolers! Do you have big ideas for our city? Here’s your chance to make them heard! The Community Wellness Services Team is thrilled to announce an amazing opportunity: the Mayor for a Day contest!
Imagine stepping into the Mayor’s shoes for a whole day! This is your chance to:
- Share your ideas for a better Chestermere.
- Engage with community leaders and learn about how our city works.
- Get a firsthand look at local government, planning, and decision-making.
- Collaborate with respected members of our community.
- Discuss changes inspired by what you see and need in Chestermere.
- Empower your voice and be part of shaping our city’s future in a fun and educational way!
This contest is your opportunity to present a mock proposal to the Community Services team and Mayor Shannon Dean. Your proposal can focus on anything you’re passionate about – from health and wellness to education, or even parks and recreation. Let your imagination and critical thinking skills shine!
As our Mayor for a Day, you will receive:
- Your very own mock inauguration ceremony to officially start your day in office!
- The chance to join in on non-confidential, day-to-day city activities.
- A special opportunity to sit down with Mayor Shannon Dean to discuss important community needs.
- Awesome City of Chestermere swag items!
- Lunch provided during your day.

Eligibility
To apply for the Mayor for a Day contest, you must meet the following criteria:
- You must live in the City of Chestermere.
- You must be in grades 6, 7, 8, or 9.
Application Process

You can submit your proposal by filling out the form below or click here to download a PDF.
Make sure to answer all the questions thoughtfully and provide as much detail as possible.
The application period opens on May 1st, 2025, and closes on May 30th, 2025.
After the deadline, the Community Services (CS) team will carefully review all applications. The top four submissions will then be passed on to Mayor Shannon Dean for the final decision during the first week of June.
If your proposal is selected as one of the top four, the CS team will notify you by email to acknowledge your hard work and update you on your standing. Only those selected into the top four will be contacted by email.
Mayor Shannon Dean will personally choose the winner from the final four proposals. The winner will be contacted by phone call from the city.
The exciting announcement of the winner will be made on our website on June 9th, 2025!
The lucky winner will then spend a day in office with Mayor Shannon Dean on June 16th, 2025. Further details about the itinerary for your special day will be shared with you shortly after by the CS Team.
