As construction season comes to a close, the City of Chestermere is providing an update on this year’s capital projects and infrastructure improvements. These projects are designed to support safe travel, enhance community amenities, and ensure services keep pace with growth.
Road and Traffic Safety
Investing in safer, more reliable travel routes across the community.
Completed
- Raised Crosswalks – Installed at all school sites to improve pedestrian safety.
- Marina Drive – Final paving at the north end, surface repairs, and manhole adjustments were completed this summer.
Underway
- Merganser Drive West – Road construction in front of the new high school site is in the final stages of completion.
- Rainbow Road North – Resurfacing is scheduled to begin in mid to late October to improve drivability and extend service life between Windermere Drive to Highway 1. Work is expected to take approximately 8 days.
Upcoming
- Chestermere Boulevard / 17 Ave SE Corridor – The City has budgeted for the local portion of road and intersection upgrades. Agreements with developers and design plans are being finalized, with construction expected to start in 2026. Work with the City of Calgary continues on the regional corridor.
Recreation and Community Spaces
Expanding and preserving spaces for recreation, education, and community gathering.
Completed
- Recreation Centre Lands – Acquisition of the Chestermere Regional Recreation Centre lands was completed on September 17, securing long-term access to recreation amenities.
- Lakeside Greens Golf Course – The City acquired the 127 -acre site on October 1, preserving it as community recreation land.
- Sunset Beach Parking Lot – Paving completed to improve accessibility and long-term user experience at the waterfront.
Underway
- New High School – Land was secured in 2025 for a new public high school in Dawson’s Landing. Preliminary design work is underway by the province, which will lead construction.
- Future Recreation Facility – Land was acquired in 2025 for a new multi-use recreation centre in Dawson’s Landing. Preliminary design work is underway, adjacent to the new high school site.
Utilities and Servicing
Upgrading underground infrastructure to ensure reliable services for today and future growth.
Completed
- Deep Utility Upgrades – Chestermere Boulevard and Rainbow Road saw water, wastewater, and storm infrastructure replaced to support long-term growth.
- Emergency Utility Repairs – Crews responded to urgent water and wastewater repairs throughout the year to ensure continued service delivery.
Underway
- Rainbow Road Sanitary Installations – New underground sanitary lines are being installed to support current and future servicing needs.
Public Safety and City Facilities
Keeping people safe and ensuring City facilities remain in good condition.
Completed
- Community Peace Officers – Vehicles and communication equipment have been updated.
- City Facilities – Lifecycle upgrades included flat roof replacements, HVAC balancing, and security improvements such as CCTV expansion at municipal sites.
Underway
- Fire Services – New protective equipment and vehicles were added. Planning continues for land acquisition for a future fire station.
Equipment and Operations
To support year-round operations on both land and lake, the City invested in new equipment in 2025:
- Snow and Road Maintenance – New belly plow truck, flat-deck trailers, and skid steer grapple to strengthen winter and road operations.
- Parks and Landscaping – Wide-area and remote mowers and a tree spade to improve turf and boulevard maintenance.
- Lake Management – A new aquatic weed harvester to improve efficiency in lake weed removal, supporting safe and enjoyable use of Chestermere Lake.
