On behalf of our partners at the RCMP, we are sharing the following:
Chestermere, Alta. — On March 25, 2026, Chestermere RCMP officers were conducting proactive patrols in the early morning hours near Kinniburgh Bay when they observed suspicious activity involving an individual underneath a parked vehicle. Upon further investigation, the officer located a suspect attempting to saw off a catalytic converter from a gold Honda CR-V. A second individual was observed acting as a lookout. The officer safely approached and arrested the primary suspect at the scene. The second unknown suspect fled on foot upon noticing police. Police dog service was involved in the search for the second suspect, but they remain outstanding.
As part of the investigation, a vehicle registered to the suspect was located and seized. Officers recovered three stolen catalytic converters, along with drug paraphernalia, from the vehicle.
Jesse Tyson Otto (44), a resident of Calgary, has been charged with the following offences:
- Possession of break-in instruments
- Mischief to a vehicle under $5000.00
- Possession of property obtained by crime less than or equal to $5000.00 (x4)
Otto was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at Alberta Court of Justice on June 2, 2026 .
“This is an excellent example of proactive police patrol leading to stop the property crime in process, the safe apprehension of the suspect and the recovery of stolen property” said Staff Sgt. Kathy Klassen, Detachment Commander of Chestermere RCMP. “Our members remain committed to keeping our roads and community safe through diligent patrols and rapid response.”
