Over the past several weeks, Chestermere Municipal Enforcement has been actively enforcing seasonal road bans for commercial vehicles operating within city limits.
Some recent notable stops include:

- Loaded cement mixer truck operating on a 50% road ban, found to be 8,400 kg over the allowable weight on its drive axle group. The driver received $4,737 in fines.
- Another cement mixer truck operating on a 50% road ban, found to be 9,400 kg over the allowable weight on its drive axle group. The driver received $5,360 in fines.
- Truck hauling dry cement mix and water operating on a 50% road ban, found to be 11,000 kg over the allowable limit on its drive axle groups. The company received $6,204 in fines. The driver was also determined to have an arrest warrant for Criminal Code offences. The driver was arrested with the assistance of Chestermere RCMP.
- A truck hauling dirt/infill operating on a 50% road ban was found to be 10,000 kg overweight on its total allowable weight and 2,100 kg overweight on its steering axles. The driver received fines of $5,640 and $680. The vehicle was also placed out of service due to multiple mechanical defects, with assistance from the Alberta Sheriffs.
These fines may seem significant, but overweight vehicles cause substantial damage to City infrastructure, leading to costly repairs and increased maintenance. They also pose serious safety risks to all road users, as excessive weight affects vehicle handling, braking distance, and collision impact.
Chestermere Municipal Enforcement remains committed to protecting public safety and preserving our roadways by ensuring compliance with seasonal road bans.
