Council Recognitions and Announcements
Mayor and members of Council recognized Red Dress Day in honour of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people. Community member Patty Sproule shared education about the day’s significance and led a smudging ceremony in which members of Council participated in support of awareness, reflection, and reconciliation efforts.
17 Ave SE & Range Rd 284 Intersection Advocacy
Mayor Dean provided information on advocacy efforts related to improvements at the intersection of 17 Ave SE and Range Rd 284. The advocacy aims to advance safety and infrastructure improvements at this location with the city of Calgary. Council directed the Mayor to send a letter to Calgary City Council outlining the urgent need for upgrades at the intersection and the twinning of Chestermere Boulevard/17 Avenue SE, while requesting collaboration on interim and long-term infrastructure solutions along the corridor.
2026 Final Operating and Capital Budget
The Office of the CAO presented the 2026 Final Operating and Capital Budget for Council’s consideration. Council directed Administration to update the definition of Vacant Residential in Bylaw #025-25, being the Division of Assessment Class and Sub-class Bylaw, to exclude single-detached properties and return the amendment to Council for approval.
Council also directed Administration to add an additional $2,926,404 to be transferred to reserves within the operating budget. Council approved the 2026 Final Operating and Capital Budget as amended.
2026 Property Tax Bylaw
Administration (Finance) requested a decision on the 2026 Property Tax Bylaw. The bylaw establishes the tax rates required to fund municipal services and operations. Council tabled the item until the May 26 regular meeting of council.
Closed Session
Council accepted the discussion regarding Budget Communications for information.
Council directed the Grant Adjudication Committee to return to Council with recommendations for granting priorities for the 2027 grant cycle.
