Chestermere, AB — May 12, 2026 — Chestermere City Council has approved the City’s 2026 operating and capital budget, focused on maintaining essential services and preparing for the needs of a growing community.
Council has heard from residents about the desire for continued investment in areas such as infrastructure, recreation, and overall service levels. This budget reflects a shift toward addressing those pressures in a more sustainable way, while ensuring decisions are made with long-term financial stability in mind.
This budget works towards building reserves to support future infrastructure and community investments, including asset replacement. Building these reserves now helps reduce the need for larger, more abrupt tax increases in the future and limits reliance on borrowing as the community continues to grow. These funds will support future Council decisions on priority projects as they are brought forward.
Council considered a range of options and made deliberate decisions about priorities and timing to balance community needs with affordability. Council will require Administration to align spending with Council priorities and provide regular reporting on how funds are used and the progress being made.
