Impaired Driving Sanction Issued Following Highway 1 Traffic Stop
On Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at approximately 11:50 a.m., a Chestermere Community Peace Officer completed a roadside traffic stop involving a semi-truck on westbound Highway 1 near Range Road 281.
As the semi merged back onto the highway, the Officer observed a pickup truck accelerate past it. A licence plate query showed the plate was expired and was not registered to the vehicle it was displayed on.
The pickup was stopped a short distance further west. On approaching the vehicle, the Officer observed indicators of impairment and requested RCMP assistance. Chestermere RCMP attended and conducted the impaired driving investigation.
The driver was issued an Immediate Roadside Sanction for impaired driving, which carries an immediate licence suspension and vehicle seizure, and was charged with operating a motor vehicle without valid insurance and registration.
This was a weekday, at midday. Impaired driving is not confined to late nights and long weekends, and it remains a danger to everyone using our roads.
