Construction is set to begin on a new Rocky View Schools kindergarten to Grade 9 school in Chestermere’s Dawson’s Landing neighbourhood following a groundbreaking ceremony on Oct. 7.
The new school will add 905 student spaces and is expected to open in September 2028.
Rocky View Schools trustees and division leadership were joined by the City of Chestermere, Chestermere-Strathmore MLA Chantelle de Jonge and project partners for the ceremony.
“Thank you to Chestermere city council. The RVS Board, the community and the students asked council to prioritize school sites and they did just that,” said Shali Baziuk, Rocky View Schools Ward 1 trustee.

The school will include more than 30 instructional classrooms, a 700-person gymnasium, two science labs and dedicated spaces for art, music, construction technologies, food and drama programming.
“We are grateful to the Government of Alberta for the approval of the new schools. Three new schools opening within the next four years is great news, and I’m looking forward to seeing the positive impact this will have on the lives of students and families in Chestermere,” said Mayor Dean.
The project comes as Chestermere continues to experience growth and increased demand for classroom space. According to Rocky View Schools, East Lake School was the last RVS school to open in Chestermere, in 2014. Since then, student enrolment in the community has increased by about 40 per cent.
