Join us for a Canada Day Celebration in Chestermere

Everyone is welcome to come together and celebrate Canada’s birthday with a full day of FREE fun, entertainment, and community spirit at John Peake Park! From pancakes to fireworks, there’s something for everyone.


Schedule of Activities:

9–11 a.m. Pancake Breakfast (Free for the first 2,000 guests!)
10 a.m.–10:45 p.m. Live Stage Performances
1:00 p.m. Cake Serving
3–7 p.m. Kids Zone (wagon rides, games, face painting, balloon artist, caricatures)
3–8 p.m.  Artisan Market
3–11 p.m. Beer Garden hosted by Canadian Brewhouse
10:45 p.m. Fireworks Show

Musician/Artist Bios Canada Day 2025

CHESTERMERE FOLK ACADEMY 
Chestermere Folk Academy, directed by Ginny Brar (Ganinder Gill), has been operating since October 2022. The academy offers Gidha dance classes to both junior and senior girls, sharing cultural tradition and joy through movement and music. 
 
 
 
JODY THE MAGICIAN 
Jody the Magician specializes in comedy magic for children. With over 40 years of experience, he has entertained thousands with his delightful shows. Expect surprises like pictures turning into colourful flowers and scarves blending into one. His half-hour stage show is followed by close-up magic as he strolls through the crowd with rope, coin, and card tricks. 
 
 
 
DORIENNE PROULX 
Dorienne Proulx is an Anishinaabe/Cree Métis artist, dancer, and entrepreneur. Through her business, Little Star Artistry, she uses fashion and art to foster creativity, connection, and change. Dorienne aims to build bridges between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, inspiring others through culture and creativity. 
 
CHANTAL CHAGNON 
Chantal Chagnon is a Cree/Métis artist, educator, knowledge keeper, and activist from Muskeg Lake Cree Nation, Saskatchewan. A Two-Spirit single mother of four, she shares Indigenous songs, stories, and teachings to educate and inspire. With 30+ years of activism, Chantal advocates for MMIWG2S, women’s rights, racial equity, and environmental justice, building understanding and community through her work. 
 
 
 
JAIDEN RILEY & MARK ALLAN 
Jaiden Riley is a Métis singer-songwriter whose music blends country, indie folk, and subtle bluegrass influences. Her warm voice and heartfelt lyrics explore themes of love, loss, and resilience. Joining her is multi-instrumentalist Mark Allan, originally from Newfoundland, who brings a deep musicality and versatility to the duo. Together, they offer a distinctive, roots-driven sound where storytelling and instrumentation intertwine. 
 
 
 
FOLLOW THE RABBIT 
Follow the Rabbit delivers a vibrant fusion of folk, rock, jazz, pop, and blues—music that makes your hair stand on end and your body move. After winning a singer-songwriter competition at Calgary’s Blind Beggar Pub, Barbie Button followed her dream of fronting a band with longtime friends Billy, Kyle, and Luke. Together for a decade, they’re known for their contagious grooves and dynamic stage energy across Alberta. 
 
 
 
BACK ROAD TRAVELLER BAND 
Back Road Traveller Band (BRTB) is one of Alberta’s hardest-working country rock acts. Their passionate songwriting, high-energy shows, and tight delivery have earned them loyal fans and repeat bookings across Western Canada. THE CAMIE LEARD BAND 
Rooted in blues and branching into soul, funk, southern rock, and classic R&B, The Camie Leard Band blends powerhouse vocals with rich musical textures. Fronted by Camie Leard, the band includes Tim Martin (guitar), Jim Johnston/Johnny Gozde (drums), Richard Erickson (bass), and often Trish Evans or Brandon Smith (keys). With original releases like Come Out of the Blue and Soul Christmas, they continue to craft dynamic, soulful performances. 
 
 
 
CREAM AND SUGAR BAND 
Cream and Sugar Band formed in January 1990 at the Waldorf Hotel in Drumheller, Alberta, and has since become a versatile dance band. They play everything from ’60s to ’80s hits, blues, country, Latin, and jazz. Though the original lineup changed over the years, founder Joy Velasco continues the legacy through solo, duo, trio, or full-band formats. Today, Cream and Sugar performs in and around Calgary, bringing joy to dance floors with a five-piece lineup and occasional guest musicians.
