As part of the Chestermere 17 Avenue S.E. Water Meter Chamber project, The City of Calgary is installing a new water meter and accompanying chamber along 17 Avenue S.E. near the Calgary city limits and are decommissioning an existing one.
Background
This project ensures water quality monitoring standards are met and that the new meter’s location is in accordance with the new City of Calgary’s boundaries.
The first stage of the project involved replacing the water meter measuring water supply to The City of Chestermere. The replacement included building a water meter chamber, which is an underground concrete structure that covers and protects a water meter and provides access from above. The second stage involves decommissioning the existing water meter chamber.
Construction Impacts
Construction hours: 7 a.m. – 10 p.m., with potential later work for equipment drop-off.
- Decommissioning of existing water meter: Pathway in front of Walmart will be detoured via a temporary pathway. Access to businesses will be maintained at all times. See construction impacts on Figure 1 of the next page.
- Pedestrian sidewalk access will be maintained at all times.
- Residents can expect to see construction trucks entering and leaving the area, construction noise and dust.
Schedule
- In progress: Installation of new water meter and chamber at the northwest intersection of 17 Avenue S.E. & 116 Street S.E. This began in June with completion expected by the first week of November.
- Mid-October 2024: Decommissioning of existing water meter chamber at 17 Avenue S.E. & 84 Street S.E. Completion expected by the end of October.
