At the Regular Council Meeting on February 25th, City Council received a presentation from Beacon Data Centres on a proposed data centre located within the City of Chestermere. This is a significant economic development opportunity for the City, with Beacon proposing a $4 Billion investment that would create over 300 permanent jobs along with 1200 jobs during construction. The presence of an AI data centre will also help attract other tech companies and startups to the area, fostering a tech ecosystem and further establishing Chestermere as a place to do business.
The Beacon data centre can provide several other local benefits, including infrastructure improvements, partnership opportunities with local business, suppliers, and educational institutions, continued support for investment attraction, and sector development and diversification.
“A project this unique in nature will bolster and diversify our local economy,” said Nimish Patel, Economic Development Manager for the City of Chestermere.
On March 18 at Lakeside Golf Course from 6pm to 8pm, Beacon will hold a public engagement session to introduce themselves and the project to the community. Click here to see the details about the application and open house.
