Public receptacles are NOT for residential waste!
Disposing of household garbage in public receptacles is not permitted. This means that household garbage should always be disposed of in household garbage bins and never in public litter bins. Public trash cans are generally intended for small pieces of incidental trash generated while in public spaces, and not household litter bins. Please refrain from placing the following in public receptacles:
- Household Packaging: Product containers, packaging from household items, and online orders.
- Food Waste: Leftovers from meals, including food packaging and food scraps. Scraps may be placed into your green bin. Beverage containers can be placed in recycling receptacles.
- Paint & Aerosols: This includes paint, latex, oils, varnishes, or masonry treatment products. These can be brought to the Eco Centre for safe disposal. Never dispose of paints or pressurized aerosols in public receptacles.
- Electronics: Phones, scanners, televisions, printers, and other technology containing circuitry.
- Pet Waste: Incidental pet waste generated while enjoying public spaces is permitted. Litter and excessive waste should be bagged and placed into your green bin.
Improper use of public receptacles could result in a citation or violation being issued. Let’s keep city spaces enjoyable for everyone!
