In alignment with the Council’s Strategic priority of Mindful and Responsible Community Stewardship, Chestermere’s Fire Department is pleased to provide an elevated level of service through Basic Life Support (BLS) skills.
Chestermere’s Firefighters are trained in Basic Life Support, allowing them to perform a wider variety of medical procedures as needed on medical-related calls. This higher level of training allows them to provide more comprehensive care on scene before the arrival of paramedics, including:
- Epinephrine Injections
- Administering Nitroglycerin
- Intravenous Therapy
Additionally, Chestermere’s Fire Engines are now equipped with Primary Care Paramedic Kits, which include LifePak Monitors & Defibrillators to further assist our teams response to calls. SpCO censors are also included, allowing first responders to better assess individuals who have experienced monoxide poisoning.
This training improves outcomes in critical medical calls, where firefighters are often the first responders. The department remains committed to integrating medical care into all emergency responses.
