As 2025 comes to a close, I continue to feel excited, blessed and humbled at the opportunity to serve as Mayor for the City of Chestermere. Thank you again Chestermere for the mandate you have given our council by re-electing all of us back to our positions for a full term. I look forward to building on the foundation we have laid since June of 2024.
This past year marked important progress for Chestermere. I am encouraged by the way Council and administration are working synergistically to continue to move Chestermere Forward. Success for the City of Chestermere comes when Council and administration work in harmony for the betterment of our community, and that is what we continue to be focused on.
Chestermere is a community that continues to thrive. Whether it be city led events or events hosted by our community organizations, things like Canada Day, Bulls on the Beach, Amazing Duck Race, Country Fair, Seniors Week, Trunk or Treat, and the other festivals, block parties and gatherings allow for our community to come together and celebrate our great city. I look forward to seeing these continue in 2026 and having new opportunities for residents as well.
As we close out the year, we are also mindful that communities face challenges as well as milestones. Situations like the current regional water disruption remind us of the importance of preparedness, cooperation, and shared responsibility. I want to thank residents for the patience and care for one another, and I want to recognize the work of staff and regional partners who are responding to these situations with professionalism and urgency.
Looking ahead, Council and administration remain focused on recreation, infrastructure, schools and improving safety in our community. Our 2026 budget reflects these priorities, and Council remains committed to being a strong regional partner and being a leader in municipal governance.
While there is much to be proud of, we are acutely aware that there are challenges that remain as well and we are committed to addressing these head on. We will continue to work hard on improving our commercial tax base, providing increased recreational opportunities for residents, and addressing our infrastructure concerns in a thoughtful and responsible way.
Council and I remain committed to open and ongoing communication with residents. Please continue to reach out with your questions, concerns, and encouragements either via email, by participating in our Public Input time at Council Meetings or by booking a 15 Minute Meeting with the Mayor.
As 2025 comes to a close, I approach 2026 filled with optimism for the future of our community. Chestermere is a resilient and caring community, and it is an honour to be able to serve you each and every day. I wish you a safe and celebratory New Years and I look forward to seeing you in 2026.
Mayor Shannon Dean
