City of Chestermere Approves 2026 Tax Rates

By May 26, 2026Newsflash

Chestermere City Council has approved a municipal tax rate increase across all property types, raising the residential mill rate from 3.248 to 3.573.

For the average household, this represents an estimated increase of approximately $227 per year, or $19 per month, based on a property value of $700,000. The approved tax rates reflect the level of investment required to maintain service levels and plan for continued growth.

Council recognizes this is a meaningful increase and understands the impact it may have on residents. The decision was made following careful consideration of rising costs, continued population growth, and the expectations residents have shared about the services and amenities they want to see in the community.

Chestermere continues to maintain the lowest municipal tax rate in the region, even with this increase. As the community has grown, pressures on infrastructure and services have increased to a point where additional investment is required to maintain current service levels and prepare responsibly for the future.

Municipal property taxes include both the municipal tax rate set by Council and the provincial education tax, which municipalities collect on behalf of the Province. For 2026, 42% ($1,826) of the total property tax bill for an average household will be directed to the Province.

Council will continue to engage with residents as future priorities and investments are brought forward for consideration.
