Council Recognitions and Announcements
Council recognized Mason’s Make-A-Wish send-off ahead of his trip to Walt Disney World. Members presented Mason with a certificate and gift package.
Council also acknowledged Synergy’s annual Duck Race, recognizing the strong community turnout. Residents were encouraged to continue supporting Synergy’s youth programs.
The Chestermere Crushers 18U AA team was recognized for winning the Tier 1 Provincial Championship. Council presented certificates and City gifts to players and coaches.
Council also recognized the annual staff-organized ALS Softball Tournament, highlighting strong participation and continued growth in charitable fundraising.
Awards and Proclamations
Council proclaimed September 2026 as Month of the Artist, recognizing the contributions of artists to Chestermere’s social, cultural and economic life and the importance of arts and creativity in community well-being.
September 13, 2026, was proclaimed World Sepsis Day, raising awareness of sepsis and the importance of early recognition and treatment.
Council also proclaimed Sept. 1, 2026, as Alberta Day, recognizing Alberta’s heritage and the contributions of residents who continue to shape the province.
September 2026 was proclaimed Arthritis Awareness Month, recognizing the impact of arthritis on Canadians and the importance of awareness, research and support.
Council accepted all proclamations for information.
Calgary Adapted Hub Memorandum of Understanding
Administration (Office of the CAO) provided an update on the City’s non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with Calgary Adapted Hub Foundation powered by Jumpstart. The partnership provides access to inclusion training, adapted recreation resources and best-practice tools, with no financial commitments to the City. Council accepted the MOU for information and directed Administration to bring back an Action Plan by December 2026.
STARS Public Presentation
Council received a public presentation from STARS Air Ambulance on its critical-care services and the importance of municipal partnerships. STARS requested consideration of a $1-per-capita funding commitment as part of a three-year pledge. Council directed Administration to bring the funding request forward during the 2027 Budget Deliberations.
Bridgeport Outline Plan and Land Use Bylaw Amendment – Bylaw #024-26
Following the public hearing (1 participant/submission), Administration (Community Growth & Infrastructure) requested a decision on amendments to the Bridgeport Outline Plan and Land Use Bylaw to update housing options and transportation infrastructure. Council gave Second, Third and Final Reading to Bylaw #024-26, approved the amended Bridgeport Outline Plan and directed Administration to bring back definitions for Cottage Housing Cluster and Cottage Building by December 2026.
Housekeeping Land Use Bylaw Amendment – Bylaw #031-26
Following the public hearing (13 participants/submissions), Administration (Community Growth & Infrastructure) requested a decision on housekeeping amendments to Land Use Bylaw #020-24 related to height regulations, lot width, frontage and health-care facilities. Council gave Second Reading to Bylaw #031-26 as amended and Third and Final Reading as presented. Council also directed Administration to bring forward a bylaw addressing development-industry concerns related to Secondary Suites and separate exterior basement entrances at the Sept. 15, 2026, Regular Meeting of Council.
Conventional Transit Update
Administration (Community Growth & Infrastructure) requested a decision on conventional transit options following a review of service models and Calgary Transit partnership opportunities. Council endorsed an hourly Calgary Transit-operated fixed-route service supported by on-demand transit and directed Administration to finalize the service contract and return with an implementation plan. Council also endorsed extending MAX Purple service to Chestermere until June 20, 2027, to maintain regional connectivity during the transition.
