Governance and Priorities Committee Meeting
Public Input
Council accepted public input regarding property taxes and mill rates related to 22 affected vacant residential properties.
The Mayor called for public input on policing priorities. No speakers came forward.
RCMP Policing Priorities Survey Results
Administration (CAO) presented the results of the RCMP Policing Priorities Survey, which gathered input from 483 respondents in March 2026. The top three priorities identified were property crime and neighbourhood safety, traffic safety and road enforcement, and visible community policing. Council accepted the report for information which will be used in conjunction with the RCMP report scheduled for April 28, 2026 to set community policing priorities for the City.
Direct Control Districts
Administration (Community Growth and Infrastructure) gave a presentation on Direct Control Districts, outlining their approval authority, site standards, and regulations. Council accepted the Report for Information.
2026 United Way Mid-Sized Grant Recipients
Administration (Community Support Services) and a member of the Grant Adjudication Committee (GAC) shared funding allocations for the United Way Mid-Sized 2026 Funding Cycle. Following a special call for applications, $49,642 was awarded to local organizations, including KIN-DIR Education Foundation, Men’s Shed, and Synergy, for programs running April to December 2026.
Medical Response Protocol Update
Emergency Services (Fire Chief) updated Council on changes to Chestermere Fire Services medical response protocols to align with Alberta Health Services’ new colour-coded dispatch system, which focuses fire resources where they provide the greatest benefit. The changes are expected to reduce approximately 140 non life-threatening medical responses annually, improving unit availability for higher-priority emergencies and overall operational readiness.
Golf Course Transition
Administration (CAO) provided an update on the transition of Lakeside Greens Golf Club to municipal ownership, including the interim management model in place for the 2026 season. Council also received an overview of financial and operational improvements, including a new website and booking system, facility upgrades, restaurant and ongoing work to evaluate long-term governance and operating options.
Standing Items
Council provided updates on school sites, recreation initiatives, and committee activities.
Closed Session
Committee held a closed session regarding a quarterly legal update in accordance with the Access to Information Act.
2025 Financial Year End Review
Administration (Finance) provided a year-end financial update on the City’s 2025 financial position, including preliminary financial statement information. This presentation served as a primer for the Special Meetings of Council set for April 22 and 23, 2026.
