On June 16, during the Governance and Priorities Meeting, the Lakeside Greens Preservation Society presented a $3,000 donation to the City of Chestermere to support improvements at the Chestermere Golf Course.
The donation was presented by Society President Brent Ladds, Executive Director Darby King-Maillot, and Board Members Lindsay MacKeracher and Joe Samulenok.
The funds were raised through community fundraising efforts and will help support the construction of a starter shelter at the golf course.
The starter shelter will provide a space for volunteers and workers who help manage tee times and support golfers throughout the day. Since 1981, volunteers and workers have been carrying out these duties without a dedicated shelter to protect them from the weather.
During the presentation, the Lakeside Greens Preservation Society thanked Council and Administration for their work supporting the golf course and its continued operations.
“We thought at the beginning of the year we’d just maybe try and help a little bit, and we ran a fundraiser to raise some money to support those initial costs,” said Brent Ladds, president of the Lakeside Greens Preservation Society. “We’re proud to present a cheque for $3,000 and happy to commit it toward the starter shelter.”
Councillor Sandboe thanked the Society for its continued commitment to the community and its efforts to give back. “I’m so impressed with that group and the work they continue to do, not only to advocate, but also to give back to the community,” said Councillor Sandboe. “I can’t stress enough how impressed I have been by the Preservation Society and their willingness to put their time and their money into the things that matter to them in the community.”
“I’m a big believer in grassroots projects and people coming forward,” said Mayor Dean. “This is a group that we’ve seen a lot of grassroots advocacy, which led to the City now purchasing and owning the golf course and figuring out the steps moving forward.”
Thanks to the Lakeside Greens Preservation Society and everyone who contributed to this fundraising effort. Community support like this helps improve local amenities for residents and visitors for years.
