Governance & Priorities Committee Meeting
Council Recognitions & Announcements
Council recognized Mila Miskulin and Piper Robinson for helping the U15 Female Box Lacrosse team, Fury Purple, capture both the Calgary city championship and the provincial title. Council also celebrated Mila’s bronze medal at the Alberta Summer Games and presented both athletes with certificates of recognition.
Public Presentations
Healthier Together Initiative
The Committee received a presentation from Primary Care Alberta on the Healthier Together initiative, which focuses on community health, prevention and cross-sector collaboration. The Committee directed Administration to explore a partnership with Primary Care Alberta to assess how the initiative could support Chestermere’s strategic priorities and community well-being goals.
Calgary Adapted Hub Partnership
The Committee received a presentation from Calgary Adapted Hub powered by Jumpstart on inclusive recreation opportunities for youth ages 4 to 24 with disabilities. The Committee directed Administration to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with Calgary Adapted Hub and return to Council by the end of September 2026 with a report for information.
Chestermere Healthcare Blueprint
The Committee received a presentation on the Chestermere Healthcare Blueprint, outlining opportunities to improve healthcare access, prevention and aging-in-place supports. The Committee directed Administration and Mayor Dean to develop Terms of Reference for a Mayor’s Task Force for Medical Advocacy before or at the 2026 Organizational Meeting and accepted the presentation for information.
Acreages Information Session – What We Heard Report
Administration (Community Growth & Infrastructure) presented the Acreages – What We Heard Report, summarizing feedback from the June 10 information session with residents of East Acreages, Lake Ere Estates, North Acreages and Paradise Meadows.
The Committee accepted the report for information directed administration to prepare a mail-out to the owners of Acreage areas related to the questions and answers in the Acreage information session package presented at the meeting.
Business Licence Bylaw Update
Administration (Community Growth & Infrastructure) presented the Draft Business Licence Bylaw Update, outlining proposed changes to modernize licensing requirements, streamline processes and strengthen compliance tools. The Committee accepted the draft update for information and directed Administration to consider feedback received during the meeting before bringing forward First Reading.
Rocky View Regional Handibus Update
Administration (Community Support Services) presented an update on Rocky View Regional Handibus, outlining current service levels, increasing demand and future considerations for specialized transit, with additional information and recommendations regarding transit services to be brought forward to Council in the fall. The Committee accepted the update for information.
Chestermere Regional Community Association Facility Utilization Data
Administration (Community Operations) presented a report on Chestermere Regional Community Association facility utilization data, highlighting current reporting limitations and opportunities to improve data collection to support future recreation planning.

School Sites Update
Administration (Office of the CAO) provided an update on local school projects, including:
- The K to 9 Catholic school is currently under construction and is expected to open in Fall 2027.
- The contractor for the K to 9 public school has been awarded, and the school is expected to open in Fall 2028.
- The public high school has received design funding and is expected to open in Fall 2029.
Members also discussed traffic and student drop-off challenges around existing schools. The Committee accepted the update for information.
Recreation Update
Administration (Office of the CAO) provided a recreation update, including preparations for the Chestermere Regional Community Association’s September presentation to Council, progress on recreation-related motions and ongoing improvements at Lakeside Greens Golf Course. Updates included bridge repairs, irrigation maintenance, clubhouse improvements and plans for a September golf tournament and concert to support future course enhancements. The Committee accepted the update for information.
Committee Updates
Council provided updates on recent committee activities. Topics included the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference, the Alberta Municipalities Spring Municipal Leaders Caucus, work underway through the Lake and Watershed Committee, and provincial emergency services discussions. The Committee accepted all committee updates for information.
