The City of Chestermere is committed to keeping residents, neighbourhoods, and public spaces safe. Unauthorized fireworks can create fire hazards, cause property damage, disturb residents, and pose risks to people, pets, and wildlife.
Community Peace Officers (CPOs) conduct enforcement throughout the year and may increase patrols during periods when fireworks-related complaints are more common. The City may also use drone technology, where appropriate, to help monitor and investigate reported bylaw violations.
Know the Fireworks Rules
Under Chestermere's Community Standards Bylaw, the possession, sale, and discharge of fireworks within city limits are prohibited.
Unauthorized fireworks can result in significant safety risks and may lead to enforcement action.
Individuals found possessing, selling, or discharging fireworks in violation of the bylaw may be subject to fines of up to $2,500 per offence.
Property Owners Can Be Held Responsible
Property owners and occupants should be aware that enforcement action may be taken when prohibited fireworks activities occur on their property.
Under the Community Standards Bylaw, registered property owners or occupants may be held accountable for allowing or failing to prevent prohibited fireworks activities on their premises.
See Fireworks? Report It
Residents who witness unauthorized fireworks are encouraged to report the activity as soon as possible. When reporting, please provide the location, time, and any details that may assist officers in responding.
For fireworks and bylaw complaints, contact Community Peace Officer Dispatch at 403-207-8154. This line is monitored 24/7 for enforcement complaints and emergency bylaw concerns.
