What is happening
The City of Chestermere is beginning construction to install new traffic signals at the intersection of West Chestermere Drive and Station Way. The work is being carried out by Can-Traffic Services Ltd. on the City's behalf.
The scope of work includes:
- Removal and reconstruction of the centre medians on West Chestermere Drive
- Installation of traffic signal poles, including poles with streetlight extensions
- Installation of a traffic controller cabinet and power distribution cabinet
- Directional drilling and trenching to install underground conduit
Once complete, the signalized intersection will improve safety and traffic flow for drivers and pedestrians at one of the City's busiest crossings.

Work hours: Weekdays only, approximately 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. No overnight or weekend work is planned. Hours have been set outside peak commuter periods to reduce delays.
Later stages of the project depend on delivery of the signal hardware, poles, and cabinet, as well as electrical inspection and utility connection. The City will provide an update as those dates are confirmed. All timelines are weather dependent.
What to expect
- Lane restrictions on West Chestermere Drive and at the Station Way approaches during working hours. Travel lanes will be maintained at standard width, and the intersection will remain open.
- Traffic control personnel (flaggers) will be on site at times to direct traffic safely around equipment.
- The posted speed limit remains 40 km/h. Please slow down and watch for workers and equipment.
- Pedestrian detours around active work areas, marked with barricades and signage.
- Construction equipment and materials staged behind barricades adjacent to the intersection.
- Access to businesses, parking lots and residences in the area will be maintained throughout construction.
How you can help
- Consider using Marina Drive as an alternate route while work is underway.
- Obey all construction signage and the direction of traffic control personnel.
- Plan for a few extra minutes of travel time through the area during working hours.
- Do not enter fenced or barricaded work areas at any time, including outside working hours.

The City of Chestermere would like to inform residents that construction activities for the West Chestermere Drive & Station Way Intersection Improvement Project are tentatively scheduled to begin on August 10, 2026, subject to weather conditions and contractor scheduling.
This important infrastructure project will include a range of intersection improvements designed to enhance traffic operations, improve pedestrian safety, and support overall mobility and connectivity within the area. These upgrades are intended to improve the efficiency of the transportation network and accommodate current and future travel demands.
As construction progresses, residents and businesses in the vicinity may notice increased activity, including the presence of construction crews, equipment, materials, and temporary traffic control measures. The City and its contractor are committed to completing the work safely and efficiently while making every effort to minimize inconvenience and maintain access for motorists, pedestrians, cyclists, and nearby businesses wherever possible.
At this time, specific lane closure schedules and any potential intersection closures have not yet been finalized. The City will continue to coordinate closely with the contractor and will provide advance notification of any lane restrictions, traffic detours, roadway impacts, or intersection closures once the detailed construction schedule has been confirmed.
